Development to create a new kind of urban node for Greenville, promoting improved mobility, inclusivity and connection.
GREENVILLE, SC – (April 30, 2025) – Verdae Development, Inc. is proud to introduce Bolden Street District, the brand and vision for the 90-acre mixed-use development that will take shape between Laurens Rd. and the Swamp Rabbit Trail beginning in mid-2026.
Bolden Street District, which was conceived through thoughtful collaboration between Verdae Development, Inc., Hollingsworth Funds, the City of Greenville, community members and business owners, is set to transform the busy thoroughfare to a thriving destination. With an intentional, community-focused design aimed at creating a welcoming space for everyone, Bolden Street District will be composed of a variety of features and amenities that build on the value of the Swamp Rabbit Trail experience.
“We’re thrilled to unveil the identity and essence of Bolden Street District, a project five years in the making,” said Dan Klausner, chief executive officer of Verdae Development, Inc. “Bolden Street District represents our commitment to inclusive, smart growth and economic opportunity that aligns with Greenville’s priorities for the future. Our vision for this redevelopment is a new community node that transforms existing retail into a vibrant, connected, and pedestrian-oriented destination that benefits the whole city. With just the right blend of neighborhood living and urban vibe, we couldn’t be more excited to bring Bolden Street District to fruition.”
The project’s center street concept will be built alongside the Swamp Rabbit Trail, offering green infrastructure including trails, open spaces, plazas, parks and paseos to promote pedestrian and bike use.
“We believe Bolden Street District is the next chapter in Greenville’s growth story,” said Bogue Wallin, chairman of Verdae Development, Inc. board of directors. “It represents a cultural crossroads – a space where businesses, residents, and visitors can come together in a sustainable, inclusive setting that enhances the fabric of the community while supporting Greenville’s broader vision for the future. Using the priorities outlined in GVL2040, we’ve focused heavily on aligning Bolden Street District with its desired outcomes – such as purposeful growth, increased mobility options, and enhanced public spaces.”
On the perimeter of the Verdae footprint, Bolden Street District is expected to break ground in mid-2026 and is one of Greenville’s largest community nodes within the city limits.
Verdae Development, Inc. is a subsidiary of Hollingsworth Funds, a charitable foundation created by the late John D. Hollingsworth Jr., a textile industry magnate who left the bulk of his estate to Hollingsworth Funds upon his passing in 2000. This foundation focuses on aligning its assets to strengthen the pathways that propel all people forward in Greenville County.
“Bolden Street District represents the kind of forward-thinking, community-centered development that aligns with our mission,” said Gage Weekes, president and chief executive officer of Hollingsworth Funds. “This project honors the legacy of John D. Hollingsworth Jr. by investing in a more connected, inclusive, and vibrant Greenville—one that creates lasting opportunity for all to advance and thrive.”
